Following the success of the series Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist on Machinima’s YouTube channel (with over 16 million views), a follow up series is now officially in development.

Announced during a panel at San Diego Comic Con, Joey Ansah revealed that he would be returning to write and direct Street Fighter: World Warrior. The series is set to appear sometime in late 2015, or early 2016.

“The scale of World Warrior is much larger,” said Joey, explaining that the new series will pick up where Assassin’s Fist left off. “The Shadaloo criminal cartel will be introduced, led by the extremely dangerous M.Bison, which will naturally lead into the World Warrior tournament…this means fan favourites Guile, Chun-Li, Sagat and co. will be playing a big part.”

When at MCM London back in May, Joey had mentioned what he would like to include in a World Warrior series, such as “Sagat getting the scar”, as well as dropping that he would like Scott Adkins to play Guile.

“We demonstrated with Assassin’s Fist that an authentic, live-action version of videogames, with a compelling and dramatic storyline, can be made,” said producer Jacqueline Quella. “We’ll be taking the same approach with the new series.”

“There are some big and primal themes which we’ll be exploring in the sequel,” said producer Mark Wooding. “It will be thrilling and naturally, as befits the game, the fights will be epic, but it will be driven by the characters, their stories, faults and problems. It will be a dark tale.”

On the official Facebook page a video was uploaded where Joey gave a summary of the special features that will be included on the upcoming DVD/Blu-ray release of Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist, which will be released in the UK on 27 October. Notably it was revealed that there would be a 15 minute bonus epilogue episode for Assassin’s Fist. “All of you guys that thought the series ended at episode 12, we’re happy to announce that there’s more,” said Joey. “The story is not quite finished yet. Assassin’s Fist still has more to go.”
