Searching for new ways to explore the world of Pokémon? Hoping to keep the whole family up all night arguing over a new game this Christmas? Well, look no further than the latest offering in Hasbro’s ever-expanding Monopoly range!

The new Kanto Edition Monopoly board will allow Pokéfans and Monopoly masters alike to “buy ’em all” in order to become the game’s Champion. Rather than battling the Kanto region’s gym leaders, players will instead be able to purchase their Pokémon, with 22 gym-trained monsters up for grabs, from Onix and Geodude in Pewter City to Growlithe and Rapidash on Cinnabar Island. In addition, players will also be able to get their hands on the legendary bird trio, Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres, as well as picking up each of the four original types of Pokéball. Instead of building houses and hotels, however, they’ll be staking their claim to property with mini PokéMarts and Pokémon Centres.

At the start of the game, you’ll be able to choose between Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Eevee and Jigglypuff, each transformed into a metal game piece to join you on your journey and protect you from unexpected Pokémon encounters. In place of the usual Chance and Community Chest cards are Professor Oak and Trainer Battle decks – perhaps we can expect to see Oak sending inexperienced trainers to jail for trying to use their bikes in inappropriate places…

The game is priced at $54.95 (approx. £33.15) on Amazon, and might make a good gift if you’re one of those annoyingly organised people who starts their Christmas shopping in the summer. Or maybe you’d just like it to keep it for yourself. After all, a world of dreams, adventures and capitalist property-grabbing with Pokémon awaits. Let’s go!
