New and improved Nintendo 3DS console announced

Just when we thought that Nintendo was done with releasing handhelds after their latest offering, the Nintendo 2DS, they have announced improved designs for both the Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo 3DS XL.

The new 3DS console comes with a few differences from their predecessors, such as additional trigger buttons and trigger support.

However that is not all. The improved CPU brings improved games, such as the newly announced Xenoblade Chronicles 3DS port available exclusively for the ‘new’ 3DS and ‘new’ 3DS XL. The faster CPU also means that applications will load faster on the handheld device.

Other additional features include the ‘C’ button, named after the Gamecube controller’s analogue C-stick, which means that we can look forward to games with dual analogue control. The newly designed console will be a similar size to its predecessors. It will also come with a micro USB slot, have slightly longer battery life and will be customisable with a variety of faceplates. An October 2014 3DS firmware update will allow for customised system themes also.

The new designs will launch officially in Japan on 10th October. We won’t see a European release until 2015.
