Doctor Strange movie to hit cinemas in 2016?

It would seem that there is no end in sight for superhero movies and thanks to some news today we can now add another one to the list of Marvel’s slate. July 8th 2016 has been pencilled in for the release for a movie based on Marvel’s mystical arts guru Doctor Strange.

The movie, which was first revealed as still being in the works by Marvel’s President of Production, Kevin Feige, last July, will focus on the story of the talented neurosurgeon, Stephen Strange, who turns to sorcery following an accident and a meeting with a mysterious person known as, The Ancient One.

The film will be directed by Scott Derrickson, he of Sinister movie fame, and is rumoured to begin shooting next May with Pinewood-Shepperton as the filming location. There is no concrete news on who is set to play the titular role, however, recent rumours have Joaquin Phoenix attached. If these rumours turn out to be true, the complex incantations of the character should prove no problem for the actor who once tried his hand rather unsuccessfully at rap.

The movie will be joined in 2016 by the as yet untitled third Captain America film, due to be released May 6th 2016, two months prior to the Sorcerer Supreme’s cinematic debut.
