One Giant Leap – Moon Landing Miniseries Coming to TNT

256px-Aldrin_Apollo_11_originalA new drama miniseries recounting the story of the first moon landing is currently in development at TNT, Deadline has revealed. Titled One Giant Leap, the upcoming show is being adapted from a book by journalist Leon Wagener about Neil Armstrong and his historic journey.

No news has yet emerged regarding broadcast dates or casting for the series: what we do know, however, is that the scripts are being written by award-winning writer/director Al Reinert. It’s hard to think of anyone better suited to the task: no stranger to space travel stories, Reinert served as a regular scriptwriter on HBO’s From the Earth to the Moon, as well as co-writing Apollo 13 with William Broyles, Jr., but is perhaps most famous for directing and producing the critically acclaimed For All Mankind, a 1989 documentary about NASA’s Apollo project.

Interestingly, Deadline notes that the decision to order this series marks a return to a once-favoured form for TNT: having been a big part of the network’s output during the previous decade, the miniseries has begun to decline in popularity over the last few years. Perhaps, then, One Giant Leap will be the first of lots more drama miniseries to come.

Who would you like to see donning an astronaut suit for the show? Let us know in the comments.
