Soar Through the Skies in Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire

You’ve seen Pokémon Dive under water and search the seas in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, but when revamps Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are released next month, you’ll also be able to explore the skies on the backs of Dragon- and Psychic-type legendaries Latias and Latios!

In our previous Pokémon post, we gave a brief outline of the new Soar feature that will enable trainers to fly through the clouds above Hoenn, as well as allowing them to visit secret islands where they can capture rare Pokémon. An exciting trailer released today shows the feature in action, with footage of Latias and Latios performing mid-air tricks and hairpin turns in their powerful, new Mega forms. The trailer also reveals that the hidden areas harbouring legendary Pokémon will be accessible via “Mirage Spots”, strange, dark and stormy portals that appear in the sky while Soaring. Soar looks set to make a fabulous addition to the Hoenn adventure. Check out the trailer below:

In addition to some stunning-looking battle graphics, the trailer also introduces the updated PokéNav system, called PokéNav Plus. PokéNav Plus is packed with handy apps to improve your game experience, including BuzzNav, which gives oct_p22_01_bot_enyou updates from across Hoenn and views from other players you’ve passed, AreaNav, which provides location-specific information about different parts of the Hoenn region and, most excitingly, DexNav which helps you to find specific types of Pokémon nearby, thus allowing you to bypass the hours of aimless wandering in tall grass that are usually required to fill up your Pokédex.

Also incorporated into the PokéNav Plus will be some of the popular features introduced in Pokémon X and Y. Pokémon Amie, Super Training, O-Powers, the Player Search System and the Holo Caster will all be making a return.

In other Pokémon news, the demos due for release tomorrow (October 15th) have already become available in some parts of the world. As well as giving players a chance to start their journey, with captured Pokémon transferable onto the new games when they arrive, the demos have revealed the inclusion of two additional Mega Pokémon: Mega Steelix and Mega Glalie.

Are you excited about the new features for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire? Is there anything else you’d like to see included? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
