First Look at Firefly Online MMORPG

firefly-onlineIt was over a year ago now that Fox first revealed plans for a “multi-user social role-playing game” based on the cult classic TV show Firefly, to the excitement of Browncoats the world over. After a long time in the making, however, the first official game footage for Firefly Online has now been revealed!

This exciting sneak peak shows an unidentified character exploring an eerie, derelict spacecraft, accompanied by a voice-over from Captain Mal and Jayne. Based on this brief clip, the graphics are looking pretty sweet, though we’ll reserve full judgement until we’ve seen more. Check it out:

According to its official website, the strategic MMORPG puts players in the shoes of a ship’s captain (presumably Mal), and will see them “hire a crew and seek out adventures, all the while trading with and competing against the millions of other players to try to survive in the Verse: find a crew, find a job, keep flying.” In addition to putting together a crew, you’ll also be able to create and customise a ship, connect with other Firefly fans and “misbehave in space and planet-side adventures”.

Created by Qmx and SparkPlug Games, Firefly Online is expected to be released early next year. The game will initially be available to download to PCs, Mac OS X, iOS and Android, and may potentially be extended to other platforms.
