universal-logoThe Universal Studios UK panel at MCM London Comic Con was packed with people eagerly awaiting new trailers and information about their favorite upcoming films. The Universal panel was the first of the day in Platinum Suite 1, but it wasn’t surprising to see so many people crowding in early.

The trailers shown varied from action to fantasy, war drama to romance.

ouija-posterFirstly, the trailer for Ouija was displayed and it truly packed a punch. Ouija is a horror film due for release this Halloween. It is directed by Stiles White and stars Daren Kagasoff, Douglas Smith, Olivia Cooke, Ana Coto, Bianca A. Santos, Erin Moriarty and Vivis Colombetti. The film tells the story of a group of friends who decide to investigate the death of a girl who died while recording herself playing with a ouija board.

Dumb and Dumber To was the next trailer shown. The long-awaited sequel to Dumb and Dumber, it tells of the return of the comedic duo played by Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. The two set out to find one of their long-lost children and perhaps get a kidney. Directed by Bobby and Peter Farrelly, the film seems like a skilled return to the comedy of the first film and the trailer definitely got the excitement going!

Finn Wittrock stars in the upcoming epic war drama Unbroken, produced and directed by Angelina Jolie and based on the 2010 novel of the same name. Throughout the trailer, we saw some amazing clips from the film which definitely got everyone present looking forward to its release. Unbroken tells the tale of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner who was taken hostage during the Second World War by Japanese forces. It will be released on Boxing Day this year.

We also got to see a trailer for The Theory of Everything. Director James Marsh and star Eddie Redmayne seem to have done some amazing work together, if this trailer is anything to go by. This tearjerker is Stephen Hawking’s life story, told in a beautiful way, and will be released on New Years Day.

Moving into the more distant future we have 50 Shades of Grey, due for release in the UK on Valentine’s Day 2015. As most would know, this long-awaited film is about a young woman called Anastasia Steele, who meets handsome billionaire Christian Grey while covering for a friend’s journalism work. She quickly falls into something resembling a relationship with him, and that is where the story truly begins. The trailer was fantastically shot and edited and I am sure many are just dying to get their hands on the full film.

dumb-dumber-435x580The Boy Next Door stars Jennifer Lopez and Ryan Guzman in a story of forbidden love which crosses boundaries and goes too far. Currently, the film is set for release on the 13th of March 2015, and not much else is known about the plot or characters. The Boy Next Door is directed by Robert Cohen.

On the 20th of February 2015, Blackhat, starring Chris Hemsworth, will be released in the UK. When a prisoner is released  to help American and Chinese authorities track down a dangerous villain, they are led on a treacherous journey from Chicago to Hong Kong. The trailer was amazing and Chris Hemsworth really shone in his role as Nicholas Hathaway.

Finally we were shown the trailer for Seventh Son, an fantasy adventure film starring Ben Barnes as Tom Ward. Tom is apprenticed to the local spook to learn to fight their mutual enemies – evil spirits. His first great challenge is to face down a powerful spirit called Mother Malkin, who has escaped her confinement. The action in the trailer looks amazing and the acting was great. Here’s hoping the full movie is as good as the trailer! The release date is the 27th of March 2015.

Here’s the roundup of the Universal UK panel: The trailers for Ouija, Dumb and Dumber To, Unbroken, The Theory of Everything, 50 Shades of Grey, A Boy Next Door, Blackhat, Seventh Son. All of these films will be released before the end of March 2015. It’s looking to be a great few months for Universal!
