The MCM Comic Con is known for being a multimedia sensation, and with K-pop and J-pop becoming ever so more noticeable within the UK music scene it was no surprise to see albums, memorabilia, and clothing inspired by the idols being sold at the event. Kuuru Pop is not a new name at MCM Comic Con as they have attended many times before. For me they are one of the stores I love to visit as the service is friendly, they have the knowledge about what they are selling, and they are one of the cheapest stores for K-pop I have seen both online and as a stall.

The people behind Kuuru Pop took a little time out of their busy schedule to give you some information about their business, what they sell and where they are at the MCM Comic Con this weekend.

Could you explain a little bit about your business?
Kuuru Pop started out in June 2010, primarily selling anime and manga goods. The following year we realised the lack of K-pop merchandise available here and began importing an ever-expanding range direct from Korea. On both sides of the business we try to keep our prices as low as possible.

What are you stocking at the MCM London Comic Con that you think your customers will like?
This time round we’re expanding our clothing range, including some exclusives from an Asian designer and will be selling backpacks for the first time. As always, we will have all the latest CD and DVD releases available along with everything else you need to support your favourite idols such as posters, light sticks, hats and jewellery.

With your CDs – DVDs – Lightsticks – Jewelry – Hats – T-shirts – Bags around what prices are you selling them?
CDs range from £12 – £20
DVDs are £30 – £40.

We sell sets of 12 large posters for £12 and sets of 10 A4-sized posters for £8.
Necklaces, bracelets and rings are £6 each or 2 for £8.
Wristbands and badges are mix and match 3 for £5
Beanies hats are £6, while caps are £10.
T-shirts are £12, sweaters are £15 and hoodies are £25.
And the new backpacks are available for £15.

Do you have any interest in the genres that you cover on your stall?
One of our staff members had been into K- pop for about five to six years and had often bemoaned how difficult it was to get hold of reasonably priced merchandise over here in the UK. As soon as we started selling K-pop merchandise it began to grow on everyone and we are now all huge fans and always dancing along to the music on the stall!

Do you have a best selling item on your stall today?
The interesting thing about K-pop compared to the anime/manga side is that the best sellers vary so much – we see trends come and go all the time. However, our wristbands and badges are always popular. It’s a more subtle way to show your love for your favourite artists and they make great gifts too.

What is it about MCM Comic Con in London that you love the most?
The whole atmosphere is always so much fun with everyone in a great, friendly mood – it’s like a giant party! Special mention also has to go to the amazing cosplayers and tasty food.

Is there anything you would like to see more at MCM Comic Con?
We hope the K-pop scene will continue to expand – we were happy to be next to the very first PopAsia stage at the last convention and look forward to seeing this area grow in the future.

This time Kuuru Pop will be occupying the whole of block AN, which will be in the lower-right corner of the North Hall. They have also just launched their brand new website ready for their attendance at the MCM London Comic Con. Be sure to follow them on Facebook and give them lots of support.
