Bandai Namco creates new anime company

Bandai Namco Pictures will be based on Sunrise’s Kids & Family division…

Bandai Namco is setting up a new anime company, based on an existing part of Sunrise’s production house. The Kids & Family division of Sunrise will be spun off to create the new company, which will be called Bandai Namco Pictures. It will be established in April 2015 and Sunrise has already registered the domain name BN-pictures.jp.

Sunrise – which is part of the Bandai Namco Group – is best known for shows such as Mobile Suit Gundam and Cowboy Bebop, while its Kids & Family division currently produces the idolthemed TV series Aikatsu! Bandai Namco Pictures will continue producing Aikatsu! and will specialise in that genre, including planning and producing original shows. Sunrise, meanwhile, will focus on fan-favourite titles, including the Mobile Suit Gundam series, in cooperation with Bandai Visual.
