C’mon, grab your friends: Cartoon Network announces Adventure Time movie


One of the most popular shows of recent years for Cartoon Network, Adventure Time is being adapted and developed by Warner Bros. and Frederator Studios for an animated cinematic feature, as announced by Deadline. The TV series centers around Finn the Human (voiced by Jeremy Shada) and his best friend, Jake the Dog, (John DiMaggio) as they discover new mysteries and adventure in the Land of Ooo.

Initially created as an original animation short by Pendleton Ward, Adventure Time gained interest as an internet hit between 2006 and 2007. Ward first pitched a full series to Nicktoons Network but later pitched to Cartoon Network, who picked up the series with the first episode ‘Slumber Party Panic‘ airing in mid-2010.

Adventure-time-characters-500Cartoon Network Studios will also be involved with alongside series creator Pendleton Ward, who has been confirmed to be writing and producing. Helming the production team are Chris McKay (executive producer of The LEGO Movie, director of upcoming The LEGO Batman Movie) and Roy Lee (producer of The LEGO Movie and How To Train Your Dragon). With many successful animation production credits under their belts, the Adventure Time film is sure to be a hit.

Familiar voice actors have lent their voices in both major and minor roles in Adventure Time. John DiMaggio voicing Jake, has also voiced Bender in FuturamaTom Kenny, who voices SpongeBob SquarePants, also plays the Ice KingMark Hamill, who has voiced the Joker since 1992 in many animated series, voices many characters in Adventure Time. Many celebrities have also voiced minor characters for the show, including George TakeiKristen Schaal, Matthew Broderick, Neil Patrick Harris, Donald Faison and Lou Ferrigno.

Currently airing its sixth season and already renewed for a seventh, Adventure Time has been a massive hit across many demographics. Slapstick humour cut with strong characters and a teeming line of sought-after merchandise has seen the hit series win two Emmy awards and many deserved nominations.

The Adventure Time film does not yet have an official title or a release date but watch this space!
