Following Fox’s comments about wanting to resurrect The X-Files in some form this past January, fans worldwide have wanted to believe that this would be happening. They finally got their wish as Fox put the truth out there that the cult series will be returning to our screens once again!

XFilesDanceDescribed by show’s creator Chris Carter as a “13-year commercial break,” this revival will see the show return for six episodes, with Chris Carter overseeing them all. He will also be joined once again by the show’s original leads, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

The show is expected to be shot this summer with an eye for release sometime during next winter’s US television schedule. This revival follows the recent success of the 24 mini-series and will join NBC’s upcoming Heroes Reborn mini-series on the list of returning cult shows.

The X-Files premiered in 1993 and over the course of nine seasons and two movies it established itself as one of the Fox network’s first major hit series, one that has built a legacy that has influenced and been carried on by many shows since then.

It is not known what the focus of these new episodes will be, whether we will see some of the show’s past mysteries re-visited, or whether each of the six will be self-contained monster of the week mystery stories, much like the original series. What we do know from a quote given to the press, is that Carter considers the time to be right for these new stories, saying, “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

So whether it is about alien conspiracies that could bring Armageddon or weird lizard monsters living in our sewer systems, one thing is for certain, expectations are high and fans the world over cannot wait to get familiar with The X-Files once again.
