“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2” Will Have Casey Jones, Played by “Arrow” Star Stephen Amell

Stephen Amell

And that is just fantastic sounding news.

While 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles didn’t exactly make for a brilliant installment of the Turtles franchise, it certainly still made bank at the box office. A fair few things worked for it, a fair few things didn’t, but probably the most criminal exclusion from the film – other than Bebop and Rocksteady – is the lack of Casey Jones.

A fan-favourite character, Casey Jones is a sometimes hockey mask-wearing ally to the titular turtles, as well as an eventual love interest for April O’Neil (Played by Megan Fox in this motion picture timeline), so it only makes sense to cast a star that’s more than familiar with masked vigilantes: Stephen Amell, who plays the lead in CW series Arrow.

He tested with a few other actors for the role, but eventually Amell came out on top. He’ll be joining the returning Megan Fox and Will Arnett for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, with David Green directing. Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec are writing the script, but no plot details nor information on other returning cast members for this sequel are known.

Michael Bay is once again producing alongside partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, hopefully this installment won’t try too hard to emulate Bay’s style and instead make an even more fan-friendly product.

The addition of Casey Jones is interesting and exciting, hopefully it’ll live up to the portrayals in other versions including the 1990s film where he was played by Elias Koteas.

What do you think of the casting? Get commenting! Amell seems to be quite the good match for Jones, especially as he’s no stranger to being awesome behind a mask.
