First trailer for MTV’s Scream TV series

“You can’t do a slasher movie as a TV series.” So says a TV series based on a popular slasher franchise. The MTV Movie Awards 2015 saw the debut trailer of the channel’s upcoming Scream TV series, which was presented by Bella Thorne, who stars in the first episode.

Airing on MTV this summer, the main trailer begins with Thorne’s character, Nina Paterson, deciding to take a dip in a swimming pool, only there’s an uninvited guest. Being Scream, the trio of footage released so far features a gruesome death, meta-references (the promo trailer deconstructs itself), and some screaming. Also a warning that these videos do include blood and a decapitated head floating in a pool.

The synopsis from MTV:

“After a cyber-bullying incident results in a brutal murder, the shocking violence stirs up memories of a killing spree from the past that has haunted some, intrigued others and maybe just inspired a new killer. A group of teens — with two old friends struggling to reconnect at its heart — become lovers, enemies, suspects, targets and victims of an assassin who’s out for blood.”

Based on the film franchise directed by Wes Craven, the series stars Willa Fitzgerald as Emma Duvall, whose popularity at high school leaves her estranged from her childhood best friend, Aubrey, played by Bex Taylor-Klaus. The series also stars Carlson Young, Connor Weil, Bobby Campo and Jason Wiles.

Jill Blotevogel and Jaime Paglia serve as executive producers, writers and showrunners, with Harvey Weinstein and Bob Weinstein also executive producing with Wes Craven, Marianne Maddalena, Cathy Konrad, Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley. The first episode is directed by Jamie Travis.

Scream the TV series airs on MTV from 30 June 2015.
