What can you find at “PopAsia” at MCM London Comic Con?

MCM London Comic Con is right around the corner, and the three-day event running from Friday 22nd May – Sunday 24th May is set to be one of the biggest yet! The convention is well known for its coverage of anime, manga, cosplay, comics, movies, games and other great media, but what has the event got to tempt those interested in Asian culture? Below is a list of the top five things that you can enjoy at PopAsia at the MCM London Comic Con.

Although they’re not as prominent as cosplays of favourite anime, TV or movie characters, there is always the odd chance you’ll spot a K-pop or J-rock cosplayer. Over the past few years, as Asian music has gained popularity worldwide , people have begun showing their support in different ways, so why not don all of your favourite merchandise and go as that “Ultra Asian Music Fan“, or play it cool and dress up in the same outfit as your favourite idol?

CDs & DVDs
Our good friends over at JPU Records always have a stall set up for your J-rock needs – why not pop along to their stall at BF12 and check out their new stock? If you’re lucky, you might be able to have a little groove to some of your favourite music with owner Tom Smith while you’re there! But it’s not only Japanese music that’s represented at MCM London Comic Con – you can also pick up K-pop CDs and even some rare DVDs. KuruuPop will be at stall B and will be stocking everything from the latest releases to some really old and hard-to-get titles. You’re guaranteed to find something to suit your tastes, and you may even discover a new group!

Are you needing your sugar fix? Want to try something different? Then the PopAsia area of MCM London Comic Con will have an array of different Japanese sweets available from TofuCute at stalls 2061 & 2163. There will be many other stalls positioned throughout the section, but if you need a drink, why not quench your thirst at Milk Tea & Pearl (stall 1871) with their collection of amazing bubble teas?

Be sure to keep your eyes and ears open when walking around the MCM London Comic Con, for the PopAsia stage will feature a range of Japanese and Korean performers. These include the likes of Francesca, who will be performing dance covers (Saturday & Sunday: 12:30), 9034K Dance Troup (Saturday: 15:30), and the J-pop idol dance unit The Wish sisters (Sunday: 15:00). Also, the MCM Fringe Stage will feature a range of Japanese and Korean performers, including dance troupes, singers and DJs.

Given the rising popularity of the Asian music scene, there is now a huge amount of fan merchandise available, from stickers, keyrings, jewellery and hats to posters, postcards, folders, bags and t-shirts. If you can’t find your favourite idols on any of the merchandise, ask the stallholder, as on many occasions they have not been able to bring their goods to the convention, but will be more than willing to post any requests out to you afterwards. While you’re at it, make sure to check out the Comic Village, as you’ll sometimes find Asian music fan-artists producing really beautiful work!

The PopAsia section of MCM London Comic Con is located between MCM Games Dome and the Signing Area of the map (bottom centre). If you find something J-rock or K-pop related, why not take a photo and tweet it out with the hashtag #mcmldn15.
