After the fervent and unconfirmed Dark Souls 3 rumours that have been popping up all week, it looks like IGN have managed to get their hands on some badass official artwork (below) that they claim is the real deal in their latest article. IGN go on to say that the image is an unreleased promotional picture for From Software’s rumoured return to their harrowing fantasy universe. The image appears to confirm a scheduled release for “Early 2016”, making it approximately a year from that of their PS4 triumph Bloodborne and 2 years after Dark Souls 2’s initial release. Whilst there is still no word from Dark Souls publishers Bandai Namco or developers From Software on the matter, this would tie in with their past release schedules. In light of this apparent leaked information, it’s likely details surrounding the game will be unveiled at this year’s E3 Conference.

The artwork sees an armoured figure turning up the heat in a desolate valley that resembles a decrepit version of the original’s Anor Londo. From Software have always kept their cards close to their chest when it comes to new titles, given the deep sense of mystery that surrounds every one of their games from the marketing to the stories themselves, making it a shame to see details escape this early with From Soft having no say in the order or manner in which their astounding secrets are unravelled. That being said, if Dark Souls 3 is officially confirmed for next year, fans of the series have much more to look forward to in coming months.

E3 will take place on the 16th – 18th of June 2015.
