Everyone’s favourite comic book genius Stan Lee may have let it slip that Disney’s Big Hero 6 will be getting a sequel. The planned follow-up is likely to hit our screens after other upcoming superhero movies Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and Black Panther.

Big Hero 6 Co-Director Chris Williams previously stated that there would not be a sequel unless there was “a story to be told”. Not much later, whilst talking to the Toronto Sun at an event promoting the Avengers razor series, Stan Lee was reported as saying:

“After Ant-Man, we’re going to start playing around with Doctor Strange, the Black Panther, the Inhumans, and then we have to come back for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Big Hero 6, The Avengers, Captain America… I don’t even know how they decide what to do next, because every one of them is so exciting and the public is waiting for them.”

After the first movie quickly climbed the charts, raking in $651 million on worldwide sales, fans and critics alike have been speculating about big twists and turns, revolving around our little hero’s handsome but presumed dead brother, Tadashi, with many believing him to be the franchise’s next big villain! The point has been made that although Tadashi was caught up in a fiery explosion, he was in a room full of experiments and gadgets. What’s to say that Tadashi wasn’t saved by one of them? As Jon Negroni of Movieplot argues,

“I believe this invention (which could be the cause of the fire) had to do with nuclear energy. Why? Because Big Hero 6 (and Disney) is purposefully setting up Tadashi to be Sunfire, one of the original members of the first Big Hero 6 team and a prominent character in the Marvel universe.”

With all this in mind, it wouldn’t be surprising if a sequel was finished pretty fast, but let’s just hope Disney takes its time and spends as much money on the second movie as it did on the first. With each additional instalment, many animated film franchises lose the feeling and quality that fans first fall in love with. Then again, this is Disney and Marvel. Let’s see what they come up with!

Who do you think should be the next Big Hero 6 villain? What about the next “Big Hero”? Do you have your own theories? Let us know in the comments or visit our Facebook and Twitter pages to share your thoughts with fellow fans.
