UPDATE: 3D Doctor Who Screening In US Only

Doctor Who is going 3D again at the cinema in September and so far only US screenings are confirmed. UPDATE: BBC Worldwide has confirmed to Sci-Fi Bulletin that there will be no UK screenings of this event.

doctor who death in heavenAlthough neither the BBC nor BBC Worldwide has officially announced anything yet, on-the-ball posters over on Gallifrey Base have spotted that various US cinemas are advertising a special 3D screening of the two-part season eight finale of Doctor Who on 15 and 16 September.

The event will also include an “exclusive” preview of season nine and a (presumably filmed) interview with Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman hosted by the internet’s favourite geek, Star Trek Next Generation actor Wil Wheaton. That alone could be worth the price of admission, although both the preview and the interview will no doubt appear on the ’net eventually and on Blu-ray special features thereafter.

BBC Worldwide today said, though: “Due to the number of events taking place for Doctor Who this year including the Symphonic Spectacular and the Doctor Who Festival, we decided against showing the episodes in UK cinema.”

There is also a 3D Blu-ray release of Doctor Who “Dark Water”/“Death In Heaven” scheduled too. Again, there has been no official announcement from BBC Worldwide but TVshowsonDVD.com is reporting a release date of 22 September is likely.
