Gotham’s New Villains For Season 2

If Jim Gordon is good at his job, Arkham Asylum could be heaving by this time next year. Gotham executive producer and lead director Danny Cannon has revealed that a whole host of new (to the series) classic Batman villains will make their debut in season two.

Gotham Joker

Part of the fun of Gotham is watching the show reinvent the origins of iconic characters, with season one giving us exciting new versions of Penguin, The Riddler, Poison Ivy, the Scarecrow and (possibly) the Joker (its take on Catwoman wasn’t quite so convincing). This trend will continue in season two Cannon tells Blastr.

“We find the Mr Freeze story very emotional,” he says. “So that’s one we are going to look at. Hugo Strange is a very interesting character who has never had an origin story, as is the Calendar Man. Azrael is a character we are starting very, very, very way back. And Tigress also.”

No wonder they’re subtitling the season “Rise Of The Villains”.

As for the existing rogues’ gallery, Cannon says the Jerome Valeska – the probable Joker –starts the season in Arkham alongside Barbara Kean, Gordon’s ex who went psycho at the end of season one (about the only interesting thing the character did all season). It seems there’s a big arc for the character in store, but challenged on whether she’ll turn out to be the show’s Harley Quinn (a fan favourite theory) he teases, “I have read that. I thought that would be really fun. She could be anything right now. She has so many options available to her. She could be her own villain.”

So now we await the casting announcements for all those new villains. Have you got any ideas for possible actors?
