Guillermo de Toro’s The Strain Renewed For Season 3

FX has given a thumbs up to a third series of vampire show The Strain, based on the books by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, with Carlton Cuse (Lost) as showrunner.

“Guillermo and Carlton have delivered two thrilling seasons of The Strain that are captivating and visually arresting, doing justice to the original novel trilogy and meeting fans’ high expectations in the process,” says FX Networks original programming president Eric Schrier. “We’re excited to see them carry this powerful story into a third season on FX.”

When factoring in catch-up viewing The Strain ranks as the eighth-most-watched series on cable in the US among viewers in the coveted adults under 50 demo.

Season two of The Strain, which kicks off with a special flashback prologue directed by Guillermo del Toro himself, starts in the UK on Watch on 26 August.

Although the show is based on a trilogy of novels, FX is keeping shtum about whether season three is intended to be the last.
