Bill Murray Will Appear In New Ghostbusters, Says Hollywood Reporter

After a lot of umming and ahhing it seems that original Ghostbusters star Bill Murray has finally agreed to appear in director Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters reboot.

At least that’s what The Hollywood Reporter is claiming in a story that’s low on details but appears to be backed up by the fact that Murray was photographed arriving in Boston late last week apparently on his way to the set.

There are no clues as to who Murray might be playing. You’d hope he might be back as Peter Venkman in an ageing mentor capacity, though it’s unclear quite how “total” Feig’s “total reboot” is intended to be. It sounds pretty “total” so we’re not holding our breath. Otherwise, it might be fun if Murray plays a bigoted character who represents the less enlightened corners of the internet where the idea of – gasp – female Ghostbusters is a crime against cinema. Say, a Fox News anchor or something. The appearance in unlikely to be more than a cameo, though.

Murray told chat show host David Letterman earlier this year that his hesitancy to sign up was partially because of the critical reception Ghostbusters II received.

Dan Aykroyd is confirmed as having a cameo in the film as well.

Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot stars Kristen Wiig as Erin Gilbert, Kate McKinnon as Jillian Holtzmann, Melissa McCarthy as Abby Yates and Leslie Jones as Patty Tolan along with Andy Garcia as the Mayor of New York City, Michael K Williams as Hawkins, Matt Walsh as Rourke, Neil Casey as the film’s villain and  Chris Hemsworth as the Ghostbusters’ secretary.
