Westworld TV Show Trailer Released

HBO has revealed a trailer for its stylish TV series based on the 1973 sci-fi movie Westworld. The eight-part series about a futuristic theme park in which the human guests role play life in the wild west alongside androids. Then the artificial attractions start developing fatal glitches. It stars Anthony Hopkins as Dr Robert Forbes, the creative director of Westworld. And if it all sounds like Jurassic Park with mechanoids, then that’s possibly because the original film was written and directed by Jurassic Park author Michael Crichton.

This new version has been written by Jonathan Nolan (the Dark Knight movie trilogy, InceptionPerson Of Interest) and his wife Lisa Joy (Pushing DaisiesBurn Notice). It is described as, “a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.” It’s  subject in vogue at the moment with Ex Machina and Humans tackling similar themes. Maybe it’s because there are now robots that can build flat-pack furniture… that proves the superior intellect of AI, surely?

The cast also includes James Marsden as Teddy Flood, a newly-arrived gunslinger in pursuit of a local beauty; Evan Rachel Wood as Dolores Abernathy, a Western girl who discovers her entire life is an elaborately constructed lie; Jeffrey Wright as Bernard Lowe, head of the Westworld Programming Division and creator of artificial people; Thandie Newton as Maeve Millay, the beautiful and sharp madame of Westworld; Sidse Babett Knudsen as Theresa Cullen, Westworld’s terse operations leader, responsible for keeping the park from sliding into unscripted chaos; Rodrigo Santoro as Harlan Bell, a wanted man bent on survival; and Ed Harris as the Man in Black, a mysterious villain.
