luna_new_moonNCIS: Los Angeles showrunner Shane Brennan and US Network CBS have snapped up the rights to Luna: New Moon, the first novel in an as-yet-unpublished SF series by Ian McDonald. Brennan will write and produce.

Luna is set in the year 2110 on the now-colonised moon. It is controlled by five corporate families (known as the Five Dragons) who run their various business enterprises with an iron fist in a near-feudal society. The moon is a lucrative source of valuable resources such as Helium-3, carbon, water ice and rare metals, which are exported back to Earth for huge profits. The plot concentrate on one of the corporations, Corta Helio, and the matriarch who runs it, Adriana, who has made many enemies on her rise to power. If the Corta family is to survive, Adriana’s five children must defend their mother’s empire from her many enemies… and each other.

Sorry, but is anyone else thinking this sounds like Dynasty in space?

Ian McDonald’s Luna will be published in the UK on 22 September by Gollancz. McDonald’s best-known previous novels include Desolation Road and the Chaga series.
