BUZZ news shorts: Assassin’s Creed, Spider-Man, Minions & more

Blood Brothers• Fantastic Four’s Michael B Jordan (who is presumably eager for the day when lazy journalists start mentioning something else he was in other than Fantastic Four) is set to appear in another comic book-based franchise : MGM’s adaptation of Dark Horse’s Blood Brothers (which has nothing to do with Willy Russell’s play). Written by Mike Gagerman and Andrew Waller, Blood Brothers is described as like Ghostbusters meets Men In Black, featuring two ancient vampires buddies, Nick and Tree, who are on the verge of going their separate ways after centuries of friendship, smoking opium with Genghis Khan and having orgies in Michelangelo’s studio. Terrible timing, as an apocalypse-obsessed villain is plotting an end to humanity. Can they put their baggage aside long enough to save the world? [via Tracking Board]

• Assassin’s Creed head of content Aymar Azaizia confirmed via Twitter that the Assassin’s Creed film will take place within the games’ continuity and also teased that “It’s possible you may find some familiar faces.” [via Coming Soon]

• The movie Minions has crossed the $1 billion world wide box office barrier, making it the third most lucrative animated movie of all time (after Frozen and Toy Story 3). It’s also Universal’s third billion dollar movie of the year after Furious 7 and Jurassic World. [via The Hollywood Reporter]

• Lionsgate is developing a big screen version of the videogame series Borderlands. Avi Arad (Spider-Man, Iron Man) and Ari Arad will produce. [via Coming Soon]

andrew_garfield_spider-man• Andrew Garfield reveals a little of what the cancelled third Amazing Spider-Man would have been about: “We thought to kind of start from the base level, the foundational level of where have we left Peter and where do we want to see him go and what’s logical. And how do we build upon where we left off with this deep, desperate moment with Gwen?” He also says that he was always keen for Spidey to be in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe: “I’ve been petitioning to hook up with Marvel since the beginning, so I’m really glad they’re finally doing it… All the ins and outs of what happened is a more tender conversation that maybe I don’t want to talk about in public in a press situation. But all I can say is that I’m stoked to go and watch a Marvel film of Spider-Man.” [via Uproxx Movies]

• Sam Worthington (Avatar, Clash of the Titans) and Ruth Wilson (Saving Mr Banks) are set to star in The Titan. Set in a not-too-distant future, the story tracks the journey of a military family who are relocated in order to take part in a ground-breaking experiment involving man’s genetic evolution into space.
