Director Peyton Reed Close To Signing For Ant-Man And The Wasp

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ant-Man director Peyton Reed is close to signing on to return for the Marvel movie’s sequel Ant-Man And The Wasp, which is due for release in July 2018.

Peyton was a late replacement for Edgar Wright (Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz) on the first film, which retained script credits for Wright and his writing partner Joe Cornish. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that neither Wright or Cornish will have any involvement with the sequel.

A few months ago, few expected Ant-Man to play a major part in Marvel’s Phase 3 plans so the announcement of Ant-Man And The Wasp a couple of weeks ago was a pleasant surprise. The film did decent if hardly earth-shattering business around the globe, but was a definite fan-pleaser. Plus, its recent massive opening in the increasingly important Chinese market – adding another $43.2 million – took its worldwide box office to £455 million.

Before Ant-Man And The Wasp, Ant-Man (Pau Rudd) will be seen next in 2015’s Captain America: Civil War.
