Luke’s Absence From The Force Awakens Trailer Is Deliberate, says Abrams

star_wars_poster_full.0.0The mysterious absence of Star Wars icon Luke Skywalker from the new trailer and posters for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is no oversight, says director JJ Abrams. And he can’t wait for you to discover why the choice not to include him was a deliberate ploy designed to make fans wonder why.

“These are good questions to be asking,” says Abrams, speaking to The Associated Press on a red carpet event at the GLSEN Respect Awards, adding that it was, “No accident… I can’t wait for you to find out the answers.”

He also reveals that the film isn’t finished yet: “My guess is we’ll probably be doing visual effects for the next three or four weeks, even though the cut will be done… We still have another scoring session with John Williams, who’s a god when it comes to music, so it’s been an ongoing, surreal experience. I just cannot wait for the movie to be out in the world.”

He also says that the cast and crew have been energised by the reaction to the trailer, “especially from people who were saying that they’re not even fans of Star Wars, but they’re interested in seeing this thing now. It’s a testament to all the amazing work that this cast and crew have done — and the studio, in rolling out the movie the way they have.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released in the UK on 17 December.
