BUZZ News Shorts: The Muppets, Guardians Vol 2, American Gods & More

••• ABC has ordered three more episodes of The Muppets, bringing its first season run to a total of 16 episodes, which seems an odd amount. Still, it’s a sign of the network’s confidence in the show which has been a moderate ratings hit. [via The Hollywood Reporter]

••• In a US TV season in which networks have been ruthlessly cutting back on episode orders for underperforming shows, FOX has gone one step further: it’s cut the episode order on a show that hasn’t even begun airing yet: Lookinglass. The show, which stars former EastEnder Rob Kazinsky, is about a 75-year-old rotten cop reborn as young man with superhuman powers. It has already undergone  name change – from The Frankenstein Code – and now FOX has cut its episode order from 13 to 11. Despite having the mighty Howard Gordon (24, Homeland) as exec producer there’s a definite whiff of a lack of confidence about this one. Can Gordon turn it round? [via The Hollywood Reporter]

mantis••• After the reports yesterday of Pom Klementieff being cast in Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 2, Deadline reports that she may be playing Mantis, a martial arts Marvel character (who rather cutely refers to herself as “this one”) introduced into The Avengers comics in 1973, who went on to have a much more cosmic significance as time went on.

••• The latest James Bond blockbuster, SPECTRE, has broken the records for the most money ever made at the box office on a Tuesday and Wednesday in the UK. On Tuesday it earned $9.2 million and on Wednesday $8.8 million, brining its total so far (including Monday evening screenings) to $24.5 million. That puts it well ahead of Skyfall’s tally after three days. [via Deadline]

American_gods_cover••• Michael Green, co-showrunner on Starz’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods, has told that they expect Gaiman to make a contribution to the writers’ room: “He has high hopes to jump into our room at some point. He has some personal things that are taking him out of the loop right now, which are wonderful [the birth of his child]. We’re hoping to get him writing. We’re wanting to put him to work, as much as we could possibly get. But he’s been the greatest. I mean, to meet someone who you’ve been such a fan of for so long. I’ve probably spent more money buying copies of his books as gifts to people than any other author I can think of, and it’s nice to meet him and then make him buy me lunch in return.” Green also reveals that the show as entered the casting process, saying announcements will be made, “as soon as possible. We’re working on it as we speak.”
