Six Billion Dollar Man Release Date Announced

The big screen remake of ’70s TV sensation The Six Million Dollar Man – renamed The Six Billion Dollar Man to take into account inflation – starring Mark Wahlberg as the bionics-enhanced cyborg Steve Austin, now has an official release date: 22 December 2017.

Oscar-nominated Damián Szifron (Wild Tales) has written the screenplay and has now been confirmed to direct. Principal photography will commence in September 2016.

The Six Billion Dollar Man, like its cheaper TV predecessor, is based on the 1972 novel Cyborg by Martin Caidin. In it, Steve Austin is “rebuilt” as a cyborg secret agent following a horrific accident that left him near dead.

“I’m thrilled to assemble The Six Billion Dollar Man for the big screen with the likes of Bob Weinstein and Damián Szifron,” said Wahlberg, who is also acting as a producer. “We look forward to creating a Steve Austin for the 21st century.”

“Damián’s unique vision and longtime passion for this story will usher in an new take on this series for a new generation,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films which are bankrolling the film. “We are excited to release the film during the holidays to bring audiences an explosive reimagining of this cultural icon.”
