Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them Plot Details Revealed

Following the publication of those great photos of Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, Entertainment Weekly has now revealed some plot details. And it certainly sounds like it contains a lot of fantastic beasts and a lot of them will be roaming 1920s America.

Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander will arrive in 1926 New York from England – for undisclosed reasons – with a magical case that is bigger on the inside and contains habitats for a number of magical creatures (go, on, all classic Doctor Who fans – you’re thinking Miniscope). On his travels, he discovers that American wizards are afraid of being outed to the public, who they call “No-Maj” instead of “Muggles”. Then something happens that makes Newt’s bag burst open, setting free the magical monsters.

Entertainment Weekly has also revealed some character details:

Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander: “An eccentric globe-hopping English ‘magizoologist’ wizard who’s far more comfortable around beasts and creatures than he is around other people. Comes to New York on a quest with his case full of magical habitats containing rare and endangered species.”

Katherine Waterston as Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein: “An ambitious worker at the Magical Congress of the United States of America (aka MACUSA, the US version of the Ministry of Magic) who meets Newt. Tina is relegated to an office well below her abilities after she stood up for the wrong person. She longs to fight for what’s right.”

Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein: “Tina’s younger sister and roommate, a big-hearted free-spirit ‘legilimens’ who can read minds.”

Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski: “An optimistic No-Maj (aka Muggle) factory worker/aspiring baker who gets introduced to the wizarding world when he meets Newt. Fun fact: He’s the Harry Potter franchise’s first Muggle main character.”

Colin Farrell as Graves: “A powerful auror and the right-hand man of the American wizarding world’s president.”

Samantha Morton as Mary Lou: “The narrow-minded leader of the fanatical Second Salemers, a group looking to expose and destroy wizards and witches.”

Ezra Miller as Credence: “Perhaps the cast’s most mysterious character. He’s Mary Lou’s troubled adopted son.”

The film is directed by David Yates, who called the shots on the final four Harry Potter films (and once announced he was going to make a Doctor Who movie – which has never progressed – but at least now he gets to make a big screen version of “Carnival Of Monsters”).  Alongside Redmayne, it stars Katherine Waterston as Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, Ezra Miller, Colin Farrell, Ron Perlman, Jenn Murray, Jon Voight, Carmen Ejogo, Gemma Chan and newcomer Faith Wood-Blagrove.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is set for a worldwide release in 3D and IMAX on 18 November 2016.
