10 Things We Learnt About Star Wars The Force Awakens From Entertainment Weekly

Entertainment Weekly’s double-size Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens issue was packed full of new information about the new JJ Abrams-directed film. Here’s a round-up of some of the most exciting snippets in handy bite-sized format as well as all the new pics:

  1. First order troops “are fed propaganda about the heroes of the Rebellion,” including that Luke Skywalker “was a villain who destroyed the benevolent Empire.”
  2. There are multiple female stormtroopers.
  3. Leia is now known as General Leia…
  4. …But one character calls her “princess at one point”. (It’s bound to be Han.)
  5. Carrie Fisher says Leia in the film is: “Solitary. Under a lot of pressure. Committed as ever to her cause, but I would imagine feeling somewhat defeated, tired, and pissed.”
  6. Han Solo may no longer a Force-sceptic (as we learned from the trailer) but, says Harrison Ford, “He does not aspire to the position of Obi-Ben Kenobi, nor do I aspire to be some New Age Alec Guinness. His development is consistent with the character, and there are emotional elements which have occasioned his growth.”
  7. Han Solo is bad as basic skills, “like accounting,” says Ford.
  8. At some point in The Force Awakens, Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) will be captured and imprisoned by the Dark Order. He appears to have Finn (John Boyega) for the first time at this point.
  9. Rey is present during that iconic moment from the trailer when Finn and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) stand in a snow-covered forest, lightsabers at the ready, prepared to duel.
  10. Rey gets up close and personal with the hull of a Star Destroyer hull.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens opens in the UK on 17 December.
