••• According to Variety, Paramount is nearing a deal with Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation helmer Christopher McQuarrie to return to the direct Mission Impossible 6. This would make him the first director to call the shots two Mission Impossible films.

••• The UK trailer for Midnight Special, from Mud and Take Shelter director Jeff Nichols, has arrived and it looks very intense.

••• And here’s the second trailer for horror film The Forest, starring Game Of Thrones’s Natalie Dormer.

••• FOX is developing a new horror series called Haunted, based on Bob Cranmer’s book The Demon Of Brownsville Road with The Devil Inside co-screenwriter/director William Brent Bell set to write and direct the serialised drama. It is about a military agent who is partnered with her ex-boyfriend, now a rogue demonologist, to help a family overcome a deadly demonic infestation of their home. At its core the series will explore the age-old question, “Is evil real?” Chris Morgan (The Fast & the Furious franchise) is set to executive produce alongside Ainsley Davies. ••• Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens has already earned over $50 million in advance ticket sales in North America. This is double the previous record set by The Dark Knight Rises in 2012 with $25 million. Imax accounts for a third of all ticket sales. [via The Hollywood Reporter]

••• Erica O’Rourke’s sci-fi book series Dissonance has been optioned for a movie by Envision Media Arts. The books (the sequel was called Resonance) are about Del, a young woman who has the ability to walk between alternate realities and is entrusted with keeping the dimensions in harmony. Jennifer Quintenz, author of the YA paranormal book series Daughters Of Lilith, will adapt the book. [via The Hollywood Reporter]
