BUZZ News Shorts: Bride Of Frankenstein, Batman V Superman, Riddick TV Show & More

Star_wars_the_force_awakens_millennium_falcon••• The fact that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is already breaking box office record will come as no surprise but here’s one record that remains quite astonishing: US online ticket sales service says that Episode VII had broken its all-time ticket sales record before it had even opened, beating other films’ entire cinematic runs.

••• David Koepp (Spider-Man, Mission: Impossible, Spielberg’s War Of The Worlds) is now in talks to write Universal’s big screen reboot of Bride Of Frankenstein which will form part of the Universal Monsters shared universe. [via Variety]

••• A new image of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice’s Lex Luth0r (Jesse Eisenberg) has emerged via another one of those “faux” internet interviews with Luthor, this time with Wired. The byline goes to Ron Troupe, a character from the Superman comics. Lex even references the Suicide Squad: “Let’s just say I ran into a wall. I’m not going to go into a lot of detail here. Suffice it to say the dangers we’ve been talking about are very real. And they’re not just limited to a couple of alien brawlers able to level tall buildings in a single bout. I’m ready to sit down with whatever task force the government has assembled — in the interest of sharing intelligence and building solutions together. If she… they… Argus… the government, whatever you want to call it, has a real interest in fighting for the future, they ought to work with those of us who are already on the front lines.”

It will be an origin story for Riddick, it will definitely by R-rated and it will start filming in 2017. Meanwhile, Universal TV has confirmed it is working on a Riddick spin-off series with Diesel’s production company One Race to be called Merc City. “In addition to being a huge star for our feature division, Vin is a true creative force as a producer. After sitting down with him and his team at One Race Television, it’s clear he will now also be an incredible asset to both the network and our television studio” said Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment (a Universal company). “We feel really fortunate to be in business with, not only an international powerhouse, but a truly thoughtful and passionate producer.”
