Kevin Smith To Direct An Episode Of The Flash

Mallrats, Dogma and Jay And Bob Strike Back director Kevin Smith (who also happens to be a loud and proud comic book geek) will be directing an episode of The Flash later this season.

The news was revealed by CW network president Mark Pedowitz at the Television Critics Association winter tour 2016 this weekend. It will air in May which means it could (though nothing has been confirmed) be the season finale.

Pedowitz also confirmed that the animated Arrowverse series Vixen will return to the online service CW Seed for a second season. It was previously revealed that the character, voiced by Megalyn Echikunwoke, will turn up in live-action form in Arrow (also played Echikunwoke) in an upcoming episode, but now Pedowitz adds: “Hopefully that character can spin itself out or if not, join the Legends Of Tomorrow.” [via IGN]

Meanwhile, executive producer Greg Berlanti said that spin-off between Legends Of Tomorrow and its parents show will be limited now, because of the nature of the show. “It’s intermittent throughout. Because [it’s about] a band of time traveling rogues, it’s harder for Arrow and Flash to be connected storywise to it throughout the season. That being said, if you know the histories of Arrow and Flash, it should be extra fun in its own way as we delve deeper and deeper into the characters lives.”

Executive producer Phil Klemmer promises Entertainment Weekly something similar, saying that there is a “100% chance” that older or younger versions of Oliver Queen and Barry Allen will appear in the series. “We will have a couple marked crossover moments that hopefully will keep people satisfied.”
