Jonah Hex To Appear In DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow

DC’s scar-faced, gunslinging western bounty hunter Jonah Hex is set to make his Arrowverse debut in an episode of DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, reveals The Hollywood Reporter.

The character, previously portrayed on the big screen by Josh Brolin in the flop 2010 movie Jonah Hex, will feature in the 11th episode which is set in the Old West and may become a recurring character. The role has yet to be cast.

“Ever since we decided that Legends would involve time-travel, we were eager to do a story set in the Old West,” says executive producer Marc Guggenheim. “But if you’re going to do a story set in the DC Universe version of the Old West, you simply must include Jonah Hex in it. We’re thrilled about bringing another well known, beloved DC character to television.”

Jonah Hex was created by writer John Albano and artist Tony DeZuniga in All-Star Western #10 (1972). Hex is a surly, cynical bounty hunter bound by a personal code of honour to protect and avenge the innocent. As a child he was sold by his abusive, alcoholic to an Apache tribe who raised him. He was eventually adopted by the Chief, who later branded him with the “Mark Of The Demon” (his face scar) for cheating in a trial in combat (he hadn’t cheated, he was framed). He became a bounty hunter after gunning down his first criminal, Lucas “Mad Dog” McGill, who was beating his wife outside of a saloon. Hex was drunk at the time, but the local deputy insisted that it was the still fastest draw he’d ever seen, and gave Hex the massive bounty on McGill’s head.

The question remains: will Jonah Hex be a help or hindrance to the Legends? Whatever the case, he’s bound to be another wonderfully silly cog in the increasingly bat’s-arse machine that is DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow. We expect an announcement about an appearance from the Legion Of Super-Pets next.
