Maz Kanata Revealed Special Powers In A Scene Cut From Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Seems there’s a lot more to Maz Kanata in Star Wars: The Force Awakens than we got to see, and not just the stuff that was intentionally meant to be left as a mystery. According to the film’s SFX Supervisor Chris Corbould in an interview with Collider,  a scene was filmed, but cut, which revealed the CG character displaying special powers.

“There was a particular part of a scene that never made it,” he says, “where they go underneath the castle and they’re going into the underground passageways, and stormtroopers are coming down the stairs and Maz uses her powers to collapse the ceiling,” Corbould revealed. “From my point of view, [that] worked absolutely brilliantly because you had all the main actors running up and then Maz does her bit and then the whole ceiling collapses in front of them, but that never made it. That was a shot I was quite proud of, actually, it worked really, really well.”

So, is Maz strong in the Force?  Lupita Nyong’o who plays the thousand-year-old space pirate did once joke in a press conference that Yoda was Maz’s first love and Abrams added, “I do believe that Maz and Yoda, at some point, crossed paths. But … that is not something that happens in this film.” Did she train under the diminutive Jedi master? Or are her powers something else entirely? What do you think?
