Legion Of Super-Heroes Will Be Teased In A DC TV Show, But Which One?

DC Entertainment CCO Geoff Johns has teased that there will be some kind of reference to DC Comics’ 30th century superhero team the Legion Of Super-Heroes in one of DC’s many current TV shows… but which one?

“Keep watching,” he said announced during today’s DC television presentation at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. “…You’ll see a hint of the Legion on one of our shows. “I love the Legion. They’re underused and hopefully we’ll get them out there soon.”

Created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, the Legion of Super-Heroes first appeared in Adventure Comics #247 (1958) when Superboy  is contacted by three teen superheroes from the far future – Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl. They take Superboy to the 30th century to become a member of their team, which was inspired by stories of Superman’s legendary heroism.

Over the decades dozens more characters have joined the Legion’s ranks including Triplicate Girl, Phantom Girl, Invisible Kid, Quantum Kid, Supergirl, Bouncing Boy and Wildfire. They have appeared in live action before in an episode of Smallville, titled “Legion” and written by, guess who, Geoff Johns. That featured Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, Brainiac and Chameleon Boy.

The obvious choice of current show for the Legion to turn up in (or, at least, be referenced on) would be the time travelling Legends Of Tomorrow. Arrow seems least likely, but The Flash has enough timey-wimey stuff to make that a distinct possibility. And, as we mentioned, Supergirl was once a member, so maybe her show will have a time travel episode. On the other hand, how pissed will we all be if the reference is a throwaway gag in the upcoming DC sitcom Powerless?
