X-Men TV Series Spin-Off Close To Series Pick-Up, Says FX Boss

Now that FX has ordered a pilot for one of the most interesting X-Men spin-off, Legion (which is being showrun by Fargo’s Noah Hawley), the channel’s boss, John Landgraf, seems confident that it will get a series pick-up.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association (TCA) winter tour in LA, FX Networks CEO Landgraf enthused, “I’m pretty optimistic about Legion. The scripts are extraordinary,” going on to point out that FX has a very good track record of taking pilots to series. Sets are being built, a writers room is being assemble and if all goes well the series could be on the screen before the year is out.

Legion is based on the Marvel comics character David Haller, who suffers from multiple personality disorder, with each of his different personalities having a different power. In the comics he’s the son of Charles Xavier and Israeli Holocaust survivor Gabrielle Haller but the producers of the show have said that crossovers are unlikely and that little, if anything, will be made of Haller’s heritage in the series.

Further to that, Landgraf revealed at the TCA that the show will not take place in the same continuity as the X-Men films. “It takes place in a parallel universe. The US government is in the early days of being aware of mutants, but not the public. I  don’t foresee any characters moving back and forth (between the movies and the series).” [via Deadline]
