Star Wars Episode VIII Will Not Clash With Avatar 2 – You Can Guess Why

Star_wars_episode_VIIIAs we predicted yesterday, despite many sites listing Christmas 2017 as the release date for Avatar 2 – apparently based on vague musings from James Cameron in some interviews or other – there was never any danger of the new release date for Star Wars Episode VIII meaning there would be a clash of the Titanic franchises at the box office.

According to TheWrap, sources have confirmed that the Avatar 2 will not be ready in time for Christmas 2017; that release date was ever official. This is hardly a surprise considering Cameron has been tinkering with the sequel for years and doesn’t seem much nearer to announcing a principal photography date (though some set construction work has begun in New Zealand it doesn’t seem to be proceeding at a “we’re shooting next month” stage).

Plus Cameron’s stated he intends to films three sequels at the same time, which is going to take some time. So even though Christmas 2017 seems a long time away, in CST (Cameron Standard Time) – which moves at a glacial pace – it really, really isn’t.

So Episode VIII’s main rival for the moment remains Spielberg’s Ready Player One. ’80s nostalgia versus ’80s nostalgia.
