Captain Phasma Back For Star Wars Episode VIII, Says Gwendoline Christie

Although it looked like she was in the wrong place at the wrong time at the end of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (that’s a bit vague, sure but somebody out there may not have seen the film yet) Captain Phasma will be back in Star Wars Episode VIII – and that’s from the horse’s mouth. Not that we’re calling Gwendoline Christie a horse, mind you. We wouldn’t dare.

Gwendoline Christie – already a cult fave thanks to Game Of Thrones and The Sarah Jane Adventures –  confirmed that she will be back as shiny-armoured stormtrooper for the Rian Johnson-directed sequel while speaking to People Magazine on the red carpet last night at the 22nd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

“I will be in the next Star Wars movie,” she said. “I think that’s an exclusive, actually.”

This must be a special thrill for Christie as the role was originally written as a male character, and she convinced JJ Abrams that she was the right person to play it, so the gender of the character was changed especially for her.
