BUZZ News Shorts: Sci-Fi Zorro, Colony, Ghost In The Shell Movie & More

••• Gravity screenwriter Jonás Cuarón – who also directed 2015’s Desierto – will write and direct the new “post-apocalyptic” Zorro movie for Lantica Media and Sobini Films, which will go by the title simply by the title Z. “When I saw Desierto, I was impressed with Jonás’s command of action and suspense, his great visual eye, and the strong performances he elicited from his actors,” says Sobini Films’ CEO Mark Amin. Alicia_Witt_2012••• Actress and singer songwriter Alicia Witt (Friday Night Lights, Person Of Interest) has revealed via Twitter that she’s landed a part in The Walking Dead, though there are no details yet of she’s playing or when she’ll appear. She’s obviously just very excited to let everybody know.

••• Colony, the Josh Holloway-starring sci-fi show created by Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Ryan Condal (Hercules) has been renewed for a second season by USA Network in the States. An alien invasion show set in LA it has yet to secure a UK broadcaster.


••• Michael Pitt (Hannibal, Boardwalk Empire) has been cast as The Laughing Man in the upcoming Ghost In The Shell movie opposite Scarlett Johansson. The Laughing Man is a hacker who replaces his face in photos with a laughing man icon. He wasn’t in the original anime movie having made his screen debut in the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series. Interesting. Strokes chin. [via The Hollywood Reporter]
