••• Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach in Watchmen, Freddy in the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake) has joined the cast of AMC’s adaptation of Preacher in for a six-episode stint as the villainous Odin Quincannon, an iconic character from the original Garth Ennis comic book series. The television version of the character is described as, “a small, decrepit man with the unscrupulous iron will necessary to be the most powerful man in Annville County, Texas. The chief employer in town, Odin runs Quincannon Meat & Power, a 125-year-old family run cattle slaughterhouse business.” [via The Hollywood Reporter]

••• As expected, Warner Bros has given in to the might of the Star Wars franchise and moved the release date of the Steven Spielberg directed Ready Player One. When Star Wars Episode VIII moved its release date from May 2017 to Christmas 2017, that meant that it would be opening against the Spielberg film. Not any more. Warners has announced that Ready Player One has a new US release date: 30 March 2018. [via Coming Soon]

The_empty_man••• 20th Century Fox is developing a movie version of 2014 BOOM! Studios horror comic The Empty Man by Cullen Bunn and Vanesa R Del Ray. David Prior, best known for creating premium bonus content for DVD and Blu-rays (including documentaries for Zodiac, The Social Network and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), will write and direct the adaptation. The synopsis for the comic reveals: “It’s been one year since the first reported case of the Empty Man disease, and no drug has been able to slow its progress. The cause is unknown, and the symptoms include fits of rage, hideous hallucinations, suicidal dementia, followed by death, or a near lifeless, empty state of catatonia. As murder cults rise nationwide, the FBI and CDC enter a joint investigation of the Empty Man, hoping to piece together clues to stop the cult and uncover a cure.” [via Deadline]

••• Variety is reporting that Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road) is in the running to play the major villain in Fast 8, directed by F Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton). Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson and Jason Statham are all expected to return.

••• Disney has officially announced that a Frozen Broadway show will open in Spring 2018. It will be preceded in 2017 by a Frozen television special for ABC. The Frozen TV special will be directed by Emmy Award-winning Prep & Landing directors Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers-Skelton, with Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell and Josh Gad all set to reprise their roles. The Frozen Broadway show will feature music and lyrics by creators of the film score Kristen Anderson-Lopez (In Transit, Up Here) and Robert Lopez (Avenue Q, The Book Of Mormon, Up Here). Cable & Deadpool 3••• 20th Century Fox is already working on a Deadpool sequel, reckons The Hollywood Reporter. Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland) are working on the follow-up, which the magazine says has already received the green light. ComicBook.com, meanwhile, is reporting that the sequel will include X-Man Cable. Deadpool and Cable have long been a double-act in Marvel comics. Deadpool looks set to take at least $65 million over its first weekend at the box office in North America, with some estimates suggesting it could take more than $70 million.

••• Ubisoft has released a new video showing off the weapons, landscapes, beasts  and other tribes that players will encounter in Far Cry Primal.
