BUZZ News Shorts: John Wick 2, Blade Runner 2, The Dark Tower & More

••• Warner Bros and Alcon Entertainment’s  Blade Runner sequel, which will star Ryan Gosling and feature Harrison Ford (reprising his role as Rick Deckard) under the direction of Denis Villeneuve (Sciario, Prisoners) now has a  North American release date: 12 January 2018.

••• According to a Tweet from Exhibitor Relations, the sequel to John Wick will be called John Wick: Chapter Two and will be released on 10 February 2017. The Tweet also says that Wick will travel to Rome in order to “kick some Italian ass.” Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, Bridget Moynahan, Tom Sadowski and Lance Reddick will all reprise their roles in the sequel. Common, Ruby Rose (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter), Riccardo Scamarcio (Burnt) and Peter Stormare (Fargo) have also been added to the cast.

••• There’s a sequel on the way to last year’s hit disaster film San Andreas is in the works which will involve earthquakes across the entire Ring Of Fire in the Pacific, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Dwayne Johnson will return for the sequel along with Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario and Paul Giamatti. Director Brad Peyton will once again call the shots.

FRD-10365.JPG••• Deadline reports that Mad Max: Fury Road star Abbey Lee is in talks to play Tirana in the first movie based on Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series. She would appear alongside the already-announced Idris Elba as Roland Deschain (The Gunslinger) and Matthew McConaughey as Randall Flag (The Man in Black). What’s slightly odd about this news is that Tirana is a fairly minor character in the novels and doesn’t appear until the seventh book. The live-action Dark Tower is planned as a concurrent film and TV franchise. Director Nikolaj Arcel, who co-wrote the Swedish version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and directed A Royal Affair, will helm the first big screen adaptation for Sony.

••• The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Emily Blunt (Edge Of Tomorrow, Sicario) is in talks to star PL Travers’ magical nanny in director Rob Marshall’s new Mary Poppins film for Disney. Although it should be pointed out that Den Of Geek has gone into a right snit on Twitter this morning as it linked Blunt to the role way, way back in September.

••• Here’s another track from the Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice soundtrack, called “The Red Capes Are Coming”.
