Casting News Makes DC Sitcom Powerless About 100 Times More Interesting

The concept of Powerless, a half-hour sitcom series set in an insurance company that exist in the DC superhero universe, was always unusual enough to pique our interest but it was never something that was really lighting up our radar. Until now. Because the latest round of casting news (Vanessa Hudgens was announced as the series lead yesterday) includes some bona fide cult favourites: Community’s Danny Pudi and Firefly’s Alan Tudyk. Christina Kirk (Along Came Polly, A to Z) has also been added to the cast.

Hudgens stars in Powerless as Emily Locke, an insurance claims adjuster who faces increasing frustration with the destructive antics of superheroes in her city. Tudyk will play Del, Emily’s overeducated dictator of a boss in the claims department, who also happens to be the owner’s son. Pudi will play Teddy, Emily’s prank-pulling work friend and trusted confidante. Kirk will portray Jackie, Del’s overworked personal assistant whose office cubicle is covered with beefcake shots of superheroes.

A To Z creator Ben Queen will executive produce the series, about the reality of working life for a normal, powerless person in a world of superheroes and villains.
