Wrath Of Khan Director Nicholas Meyer Returns To Star Trek For New Series

“Remember.” You must have heard that old saying about the classic cast Star Trek movies: odd ones bad, even ones good? Well, it’s broadly true. And one name connects all the even-numbered Trek films: Nicholas Meyer. He was director (and uncredited scriptwriter) on The Wrath Of Khan. He wrote The Voyage Home. He wrote and directed The Undiscovered Country. So this man is a true Legend Of Star Trek.

And he’s coming back.

Showrunner on the new Star Trek TV reboot Bryan Fuller “remembered” and in his search for writers he’s brought Meyer on board as part of the team. Meyer will also act as a consulting producer.

“Nicholas Meyer chased Kirk and Khan ’round the Mutara Nebula and ’round Genesis’ flames,” says Fuller. “He saved the whales with the Enterprise and its crew, and waged war and peace between Klingons and the Federation. We are thrilled to announce that one of Star Trek’s greatest storytellers will be boldy returning as Nicholas Meyer beams aboard the new Trek writing staff.”

The new series, which is being made by CBS Television Studios, will launch with a premier on CBS in early 2017 after which all subsequent first-run episodes will then be available exclusively in the States on CBS All Access, the network’s video-on-demand and live streaming service.

Nicholas Meyer also wrote and directed the 1979 cult time travel movie Time After Time and the infamous atomic apocalypse TV movie The Day After in 1983.
