BUZZ News Shorts: Justice League Movie, The Exorcist, Time & More


••• Superman actor Henry Cavill revealed during an Oscars red carpet interview that he’s read the script for the Justice League movie, and while, unsurprisingly, he says, “I can tell you nothing,” he did add, “We’re talking about Justice League here, so this is the DC Cinematic Universe is finally getting its chance to really grow in this one, and I think all the characters are fantastic. I’m looking forward to being a part of that whole gig.”

••• The final film in The Divergent Series now has a director, following the sudden departure a few weeks back of an apparently exhausted Robert Schwentke, who helmed Insurgent and Allegiant back-to-back. According to Heat Vision, Lee Toland Krieger (Celeste & Jesse Forever, The Age Of Adaline) has stepped in to direct The Divergent Series: Ascendant.

Hannah Kasulka••• Hannah Kasulka (What to Expect When You’re Expecting, “18 Year Old Faerie Girl #2” in two episodes of True Blood) has been cast opposite Brianne Howey in Fox’s new TV pilot based on  The Exorcist, a modern reinvention of William Blatty’s infmaous 1971 book. If it goes to a series The Exorcist will be a serialized psychological thriller following two very different men tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession and confronting the face of true evil. Rupert Wyatt (Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes) is set to direct the pilot. [via Deadline]

Matt Lanter••• Matt Lanter (Heroes, Point Pleasant, Star Wars: Clone Wars) has nabbed the male lead role in Time, NBC’s new time travel drama pilot from Supernatural creator Eric Kripke and The Shield creator Shawn Ryan. Described as “Back To The Future meets Mission: Impossible”, it’s a high-octane drama following an unlikely trio who travel through time to battle a master criminal intent on altering the fabric of human history with potentially catastrophic results. [via Deadline]

Sameen_shaw••• Person Of Interest’s Sarah Shahi (she plays the wonderfully surly Sameen Shaw) has been chosen to play the latest version of sleuth Nancy Drew in the CBS series simply titled Drew. The series will feature Nancy now in her 30s and working for the NYPD. Which kinda just makes it just another cop show, surely? [via]

••• DreamWorks’ Kung Fu Panda 3 is breaking box office records in China. It has just became the highest grossing animated film in the history of the Chinese box office, grossing 975 million yuan (or $149 million USD).
