No Green Lantern Until Justice League 2 (Possibly 3) & More BvS Snippets

As suggested by his absence from the concept art released recently for the forthcoming Justice League movie, it’s looking more and more likely that we won’t be seeing Green Lantern until Justice League 2. Though as news filters through of how some of the other superheroes in the team make their appearance in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, it’s not inconceivable he may make a cameo earlier. Or an Easter egg at least.

The latest edition of Entertainment Weekly is absolutely packed with snippets of new information (and pics) about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, some of it quite spoilerly depending on your spoiler threshold but we’ll warn you before we get to that. On a safer level EW confirms that Suicide Squad takes place after the events of Batman v Superman, contrary to previous rumours and that 2017’s Wonder Woman will feature “present day” scenes at the start and end of the film.

As for Green Lantern, here’s what producer Charles Rovin has to say:

“Every beat of the movie is not yet worked out. So there’s the possibility that he may or may not be in Justice League 2. For now, we felt that we were introducing enough characters that the best possible place we could put Green Lantern is some introduction in Justice League 2, or barring that, a movie after.”

Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production at Warner Bros adds:

“[Green Lantern] is an incredible character. He’s actually multiple incredible characters. There’s real opportunity there. We didn’t do a great job on that first Green Lantern movie. This is a character who deserves to be treated in the same way that Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman are being treated now, which is with great reverence. I guess I can say to the Green Lantern fans: if they can be patient with us, I think they’ll be really happy.”

Things start getting spoilery!

However, a new detail about how the Flash (played by Ezra Miller) appears in Batman V Superman suggests that the gods of the DC Cinematic Universe could drop in a Green Lantern cameo of Easter egg earlier, as a tease.

Apparently there will be a sequence in which the Flash delivers a message to Batman, but it will be unclear if the scene is a dream or Barry Allen has travelling back in time. Zack Snyder calls the scene “a giant Easter egg” for fans: “We had such a straightforward narrative, on one hand, I wanted this other layer of the movie to be complicated and bizarre.”

On the subject of the dream sequences, both Batman and Superman’s Darkseid-teasing nightmares will be laced throughout the film and Entertainment Weekly heavily hints that the tyrant of Apokolips will make an appearance of some sort.

Meanwhile Ben Affleck reveals how Batman feels when he finds out Superman isn’t the only superpowered person in the world: “The idea that there are more, that’s hopeful and also terrifying to him. Because then they could make humans even more powerless — or they could serve on our side.”

Another intriguing snippet reveals that Jena Malone’s “secret character” has been cut out of the theatrical version of BvS, but will be present for the extended R-Rated cut (see here). The mind boggles! Batman’s dominatrix, anyone?
