BUZZ News Shorts: The Tick, Gambit, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 & More

••• Ben Edlund, the creator of The Tick, has been talking to Entertainment Weekly about the vision for Amazon Prime’s reboot of the show, which will star Peter Serafinowicz: “We’ve got this show about superheroes where we get to have fun with the idea of superheroes by starting with kind of a comedic parody of an event-oriented-like universe. It will be darker and more grounded. And it’s going to have a real story, a real hero’s myth. We’re the ones that get to have fun with it and that’s kind of the situation where right now that’s an open field in this area of entertainment. I love continuity and playing a seriality that is very close to what comics always have been, which is when something happens it gets fed into the ongoing canon and that becomes part of the fabric of the reality that that universe holds. To me, that’s something [that] is still super valuable, even in the humour universe.”

••• According to Variety, David Oyelowo (Martin Luther King Jr in Selma) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Martha Jones’s sister in Doctor Who) are in talks to star in Bad Robot’s God Particle. The film is about a “a team of astronauts who make a terrifying discovery that challenges all they know about the fabric of reality, as they desperately fight for their survival.” Julius Onah will direct, with JJ Abrams producing. God Particle is scheduled for release on February 2017 release.

••• According to The Hollywood Reporter, re-writes on Fox’s X-Men spinoff Gambit has forced production on the film to delay its start date. Production was expected to begin this month but now things may not kick-off until the end of 2016. As a result, director Doug Liman (Edge Of Tomorrow) may make another project in the meantime. THR says he’s considering Amazon Studios’ The Wall, a psychological thriller and the first spec script purchased by the online retailer-turned-content provider.

••• During a Facebook Q&A, Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn confirmed that Marvel has asked him to stay on to direct a third film in the franchise but he hasn’t made a decision yet. “Right now I really am just concerned with doing Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2. I’m not sure what I’m going to do after this… Marvel has talked to me about continuing on. I’m not sure if that’s what I want to do or if that’s not what I want to do. I really just want to make Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 the greatest possible movie that I can, and something that’s as honest and sincere and true as it can possibly be.” [via Coming Soon]

••• Need some inspiration for cosplay? Maybe you can work from the shoes up. Because soon you’ll be able to buy some official replicas of the Reebok high-tops that Ripley wore in Aliens. The trainers will go on sale on 26 April in the US (though we’re sure you’ll be able to order them on line over here) which is being called Alien Day, and will feature loads of Alien-related gubbins (the date’s been chosen in reference to exmoon LV-426, where the xenomorphs were first discovered in Ridley Scott’s 1979 Alien – of course in Britain that means the date would be the 42nd June). Reebok has previously released less authentic low-top versions of the Reebok Stomper worn by other characters in the film, but this is the first time replicas of Ripley’s shoes have been available.
