Marvel and Netflix have cast one of the key characters from Power Man/Iron Fist comic continuity for the upcoming Iron Fist TV series. Jessica Henwick will play Colleen Wing, who grew up in Japan and trained as a Samurai before moving to New York, finding a crime-busting partner in Misty Knight and forming a a private detective agency, Knightwing Restorations, Ltd (though Danny Rand – Iron Fist – coined their more famous name: The Daughters Of The Dragon).
Henwick, like series lead Finn Jones, has also appeared in Game Of Thrones but it’s hardly a reunion as their characters never met. She played one of the Sand Snakes, Nymeria Sand, the second of the eight bastard daughters of Prince Oberyn Martell. (Jones played Loras Tyrell.) Henwick also appeared as an X-Wing pilot in The Force Awakens and had a recurring role in season three of the legal drama Silk.
Marvel’s Iron Fist follows Danny Rand (Jones), who returns to New York after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.
Colleen Wing made her first appeared in Marvel Premiere #19 (1974). Simone Missick has been cast as Misty Knight for the Luke Cage series, but it hasn’t yet been confirmed if she’ll also be appearing in Iron Fist. You’d expect her to, but maybe in the Netflix universe the Daughters Of The Dragon don’t meet until The Defenders series.
“I’m very excited to have Jessica as our Colleen Wing,” says executive producer and showrunner, Scott Buck. “She’s shown us that she can bring both a sense of quiet strength as well as an engaging vulnerability to the character.”
“Jessica brings both a youthful vitality mixed with a strong sense of authority crucial to the character,” adds executive producer/head of Marvel television, Jeph Loeb. “And as anyone who’s seen her in Game Of Thrones can attest, she can throw down with the best of them, making her the perfect Colleen Wing.”
