Poor old Superman felt a little like a guest star in his own movie in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice as the script seemed more interested in exploring Batman’s character. Some fans felt that Superman deserved another solo film to cement the Henry Cavill version of the character’s in the public psyche before giving him crossovers with other DC characters. Cavill himself has been pragmatic in interviews, supporting the idea that Warners needed to use Superman as character around which to build a DC cinematic universe, and the character could be better explored once that universe is in place. Now Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice director Zack Snyder weighs in, telling IGN that a solo Superman is still a possibility.
“I think if we could get a good script it would be great to have a standalone Superman movie. I think that would be fun to do,” says Snyder. “Part of the reason we haven’t announced the standalone Superman movie was to support some of the events of Batman v Superman.”
Cavill adds, “I do believe it depends upon the success of this movie. If this goes well then we can start to negotiate with Warner Bros to develop a standalone Superman, but they’ve got their plan set out for other stuff and Justice Leagues and various other movies. It’s about finding the time really. It’s something I would be very keen to do.”
