When NBC’s Grimm launched back in 2011 many pundits predicted it had one-season-wonder written all over it. Premiering the same season as Once Upon A Time, it seemed like a similar fantasy idea with a less original format – the buddy-cop procedural. Yawn. It also had very silly-looking monsters.
Five years later and NBC has announced there will be a sixth season of Grimm having outlasted many other NBC genre shows in the meantime: Hannibal, Dracula, Crossbones, Constantine.
You can’t deny the show is a survivor and it has a very loyal fanbase. More importantly to NBC, which totally owns the show, it still performs respectably in live viewing figures, performs amazingly in catch-up viewing figures and sells well around the world.
“We absolutely love what our producers and cast have accomplished over the past five seasons,” NBC Entertainment Jennifer Salke said. “They have created a whole new world of creatures and have a truly devoted fan base. We can’t wait to see what comes next.”
